Christine Obbo

Christine Obbo (born in 1947) is an Ugandan socio-cultural anthropologist. She attended school at Makerere University in Uganda, earning her BA and MA there. She went on to receive a doctorate at the University of Wisconsin. She was then a professor at Wheaton College and then Wayne State University, later becoming involved in activities with HIV/AIDS, gender, and policy issues.

As an anthropologist, Obbo focuses on Ugandan ethnography. She is the author of the book African Women.

Dr. Obbo married anthropologist Aidan Southall. Together, they have one daughter and one son.
