Biography

Christian George Begg (born 19 May 1986) is an English cricketer. Begg is a left-handed batsman who bowls left-arm slow-medium. He was born in Johannesburg, Transvaal Province.
While studying for his degree at Durham University, Begg made his first-class debut for Durham UCCE against Surrey in 2006. He made a further first-class appearance in 2006, against Nottinghamshire. In his two first-class matches for the university, he failed to impress with the bat, scoring 4 runs at an average of 1.33, with a high score of 2.
In 2014, he moved to Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands in a last ditch attempt to win his national colours for cricket. However, he again failed to impress with either bat or ball, and has failed to better his previous first class average of 1.33. In 2015, he retired from first class cricket to pursue an alternative career, but is still participating in social cricket leagues on the island.
In May 2015 he helped the Privvie's cricket team to an unlikely draw against a spirited Govvie XI. He managed to perform well with the bat on a slow and unpredictable pitch, top scoring with a score of 15 not out. However his most telling contribution was with the ball. Although his pace is of no threat, he has perfected the long hop which allows batsmen to score at will. He bowled 2 overs and managed to take 2 wickets, having conceded a paltry 29 runs.
Later that month he was also instrumental in his corporate golf team's victory in the league, courageously leading them from the front with an inspired performance. He is a left handed player who plays off a respectable 10 handicap. He is best known for his booming drives, color coding his clubs, apparel and shoes, and his inability to hole a putt from outside 7 foot.
In December 2015, he took up long distance running by running the Cayman half marathon. Despite his best efforts in very challenging conditions he missed the official world record time by 68 minutes. He then took up skiing in the hopes of qualifying for the 2018 Winter Olympics. Unfortunately, despite his aggressive letter writing campaign and obvious style on the slopes of Breckenridge, he was unable to persuade any country to sponsor his bid to enter the freestyle skiing competition. Recently his bid for national colours has become increasingly desperate as he has taken up Gaelic football, even though the game is played almost exclusively by Ireland. On the field he is characterised by his stylish half jacket sunglasses and his lack of proper catching technique under the high ball.
Recently his bowling ability and form has improved immensely, despite there being no end in sight for his struggles with the bat. After years of failed attempts he finally found a maiden that he was able to bowl over. This has led to a feature in the SA Cricket magazine alongside Dale Steyn as well as a column in the Sunday Times written by Robin Jackman entitled "Playing well above his average".
