Biography
Carmen Winant (born 1983, San Francisco, California) is a writer and visual artist who explores representations of women through collage, mixed media and installation. She lives and works in Columbus, Ohio.
Early life and education
She received her BA from UCLA and master's degrees in Critical Studies and Fine Arts from the California College of the Arts in 2011. In 2010, she was a resident at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.
Work
Visual
Winant's large-scale collages present a mosaic of clippings of women's figures and bodies (e.g. Pictures of Women Working; A World Without Men). She also makes collages that combine text and image (e.g. What Would You Do if You Weren’t Afraid? (Women in the News Before November 8, 2016). In 2015 Winant published My Life as a Man, an artist book with Horses Think Press.
During the 2016 election, Winant created a print called Hillary Forever which was sold by I Feel Like Hillz, with proceeds going to Planned Parenthood.
