Bronson Thayer was a banking executive in Florida, U.S.A. Thayer had an illustrious career in banking and entrepreneurship.

A. Bronson Thayer was born on 2 September 1939 in Mineola, New York. He was a graduate of Harvard College, Boston. In 1967, he received an MBA degree from New York University, New York.

Career

From 1969 to 1972, he was the Vice President of Dominick & Dominick. in New York.
After working with Dominick & Dominick, he moved to Tampa, Florida, and was the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Lykes Brothers from 1974 to 1983.

Thayer's wife, Stella Ferguson Thayer, is a member of the Lykes Family of Florida that wholly owns Lykes Bros. Inc, which operates Florida's largest agribusiness and has banking, shipping, real estate and energy interests

In 1989, Thayer became Executive Vice President of Lykes, and chair of their executive committee, reports The New York Times

In 1999, he launched Bay Cities Bank, a Tampa community bank. He was the Chairman of the Board and past Chief Executive Officer of the bank, which was sold to Arkansas bank group in June 2015.

Thayer was on the board of WEDU, a local public television station. He also served on the Florida Council of 100, the boards of the Tampa Museum of Art and the University of South Florida Foundation.

In 2014, Bronson and Stella Thayer were honored with the Annual James H. “Jimbo” Kynes 2014 Citizen of the Year Award presented by The Economic Club of Tampa.

Bronson Thayer died on December 24, 2016, at the age of 77. Thayer was a keen hiker and had climbed all 46 peaks in the Adirondacks that have an elevation above 4,000 feet.
