Billy Hayes (born April 13, 1974,) is an American film director and producer known for his work on the television series Inbetween and the award-winning short film Franky and the Ant.
Early life
Billy Hayes was born on April 13, 1974, in Arlington, Virginia
Career
Hayes started his career in the show business working in the sound department and art department. In 1993, he was part of the sound department team for George P. Cosmatos-directed action/drama Tombstone (starring Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer.) He worked for Cosmatos again in 1997, this time in the art department, on his action/drama film Shadow Conspiracy.
After working as a production assistant on the TV documentary The Conquerors (2005) and Nacho Libre (2006,) he worked as the associate producer for Brian McNamara on Lost Signal (starring Al Santos and Sandra McCoy).
Hayes came to spotlight in 2012 with his short film Franky and the Ant, which he wrote, directed and produced. For the film, Hayes won numerous awards, including:
- Best Narrative Short at Los Angeles Film and Script Festival, US 2013
- Best of the Fest: Short Short at LA Indie Film Fest 2013
- Best Shorts Too at FirstGlance Film Fest Hollywood 2014
- Outstanding Producer at Zed Fest Film Festival 2014
- Gold Remi Award at WorldFest Houston 2014
- Best Short Screenplay at Terror Film Festival 2014
The lead cast of the film, Christine Woods, Anthony Pavelich, and Emmanuel Todorov, also won various awards for their performance.
In 2015, he directed Emmanuel Todorov's television comedy series Inbetween (starring Norma Maldonado and Omar Leyva).
Most recently, in 2020, he wrote, directed and produced three short films: To the Sea, Choking Hazard, and Gender Bender.
