Austin Anthony Vetter (born September 13, 1967) is an American prelate of the Catholic Church who is bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Helena, Montana.
Biography
Vetter was born on September 13, 1967, in Linton, North Dakota. After attending North Dakota State University from 1985 to 1989, he studied for the priesthood at Cardinal Muench Seminary in Fargo, North Dakota, from 1986 to 1989, and at the Pontifical North American College, earning a bachelor's degree in sacred theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in 1992. On June 29, 1993, Vetter was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Bismarck.
Priestly assignments
After ordination, Vetter's assignments included:
- Parochial vicar, Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck
- Religion instructor, St. Mary's Central High School, Bismarck (1994-1999)
- Pastor, St. Martin’s in Center, St. Patrick’s in Dickinson and St. Leo the Great in Minot
- Adjunct faculty member, Institute for Priestly Formation, Creighton University, Omaha (2004-2007)
- Director of Spiritual Formation, Pontifical North American College, Rome (2012-2018)
- Rector, Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck (2018-2019)
Bishop of Helena
Pope Francis appointed him bishop of the Diocese of Helena on October 8, 2019. Vetter was ordained as a bishop on November 20, 2019.
