Biography

Antony Hermus is a Dutch conductor.

Career

Antony Hermus started playing piano when he was six years old, and later studied with Jacques de Tiège at the Tilburg Music Conservatory. He then studied conducting with Jac van Steen and Georg Fritzsch. In 2002, when he was 29 years old, Hermus was named Music Director on Hagen (Germany), and in 2009 he became Music Director of the Dessau Opera, and was nominated for Conductor of the Year by Opernwelt in 2010, 2011, and 2012. He completed his tenure in Dessau in 2015 by conducting his firstRing cycle, and being named Honorary Conductor.

Hermus has a repertoire of more than 200 symphonies and 40 operas, and, while he focuses mostly on the Romantic era, he also performs contemporary works.

Antony Hermus is currently Principal Guest Conductor of the North Netherlands Orchestra and Artistic Advisor of the National Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands. He has also worked as a guest conductor with many of the world's leading orchestras, including such as the Philharmonia Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Concertgebouw, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic, Bamberg Symphony, Melbourne Symphony, Seoul Philharmonic, Danish Radio Symphony, and Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.

As an opera conductor, he has performed in Stuttgart, Strasbourg, Gothenburg, at the Komische Oper Berlin, the Opéra de Paris studio, Essen, Opera North, and the Nederlandse Reisopera.

Recordings

Antony Hermus has made a number of recordings for the CPO record label, including symphonies by Hausegger, Diepenbrock, Klughardt, and Wagenaar, as well as a recording of Auber's opera La Muette de Portici.
