Biography
Alex Connock is a British broadcast and digital media executive and academic. He is Managing Director of production company Endemol Shine North, part of the Endemol Shine Group and a specialist in the production and study of branded content. He is a Visiting Professor at Manchester Metropolitan University, University of Salford, University of Sunderland, Visiting Fellow at Manchester Business School and entrepreneur-in-residence at INSEAD. Endemol Shine North produces specialist factual programming for BBC, Discovery Channel, National Geographic Channel, Channel 5 and other broadcasters, as well as TV commercials and social video marketing. In 2016 he was also head of video at social media site The LADbible. He has degrees from St John's College, Oxford University (BA Politics and Economics), Columbia University School of Journalism (Master's in Journalism) and INSEAD (MBA.). He is based near Manchester, attended Manchester Grammar School and was Chair of the Royal Television Society North West from 2010-17. He was co-author of the 2013 Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism and Ipsos MORI report measuring the effectiveness of brand integration in content, and a 2016 study with Ipsos MORI on the impact of different styles of content delivery in video commerce. He has also been published in The Spectator and 2015 and 2016 academic anthologies on the future of the BBC and Channel 4. He is member of the advisory board of the Edinburgh TV Festival. He previously co-founded production group Ten Alps with Bob Geldof and worked at TV companies Planet 24, Granada TV and the BBC.
