Albert F. Canwell

Albert F. Canwell was an American politician and self-appointed anti-communist crusader. He served as a member of the Washington State House of Representatives from 1947 to 1949.

The Washington State Un-American Activities Committee, chaired by Albert Canwell, was an investigative committee established in 1947 to investigate alleged communist infiltration in the state. It was one of many similar committees formed across the United States during the Second Red Scare.

Albert Canwell was accused of abusing his power as chair of the Washington State Un-American Activities Committee by using it to attack progressive politicians and organizations, often based on flimsy or nonexistent evidence.
