Biography
Ahmed Danny Ramadan (born 1984) is a Syrian novelist, public speaker, columnist, and a gay refugee activist. He was born in Damascus, Syria. He became a Syrian refugee and immigrated to Lebanon in 2012, before immigrating to Vancouver, Canada in September 2014.
Ramadan was picked as the grand marshall for Vancouver Pride Festival 2016, for his work supporting LGBTQ-identifying refugees and newcomers. He speaks publicly about issues related to gay Syrian refugeesand he writes a bi-weekly column on Daily Xtra.
Ramadan translated the work of Saudi blogger Raif Badawi to English, released in 2015 by Greystone Books, titled 1000 Lashes: Because I Say What I Think.
He published two short story collections in Arabic. His first novel in English, titled The Clothesline Swing, will be released in May 2017 by Harbour Publishing.
