Biography

A. B. Thompson (23 September 1797 — 4 August 1871) was an American businessman, general, and politician.

Life and career

A. B. Thompson was born Abner B. Thompson on September 23, 1797, in Middleborough, Plymouth County, Massachusetts, to Benjamin Thomson and Mary Bourn.

In 1817, he moved to Brunswick, Maine, where he worked as a businessman. He was a co-owner of the Warumbo Manufacturing Company, a mill, and other businesses.

Thompson took an active part in the military affairs of the State and served in every capacity in the State Militia from private to Major General, and was for eight years Adjutant General of the State of Maine. He was State Treasurer for two years and State Senator one year.

In 1836-37, he was elected Junior Grand Warden, after first having been appointed as District Deputy Grand Master of the First District in 1934. In 1838, he was appointed Grand Master and served two terms.

He was one of the charter members of Mt. Vernon Council, No. 2, and assisted in the formation of the Grand Council of Maine. 

Death

Thompson died on September 23, 1797, in Brunswick, Maine. He was 73.
