Biography
王亶望（？—1781年），山西臨汾人。
江蘇巡撫王師之子。早年為舉人。因捐资获得知县职务，授官云南武定知府。乾隆三十九年，轉任甘肅布政使。乾隆四十二年，升為浙江巡撫，因上报旱灾有功，擢升为陕甘总督。乾隆四十六年（1781年），大学士阿桂赴浙江勘察海塘工程時，弹劾杭嘉湖道王燧和嘉兴知府陈虞盛贪浮，牽連到王亶望。阿桂前往甘肅鎮壓河州回民苏四十三之乱時，發現甘肅時下大雨，並無旱象。乾隆帝派侍郎楊魁到浙江會同巡撫陳輝祖，嚴審王亶望等一干甘肅官員，至此發生自乾隆卅九年至四十六年間的「甘肃捐監冒赈案」，真相大白。乾隆四十六年，王亶望問罪被斩，勒尔谨自盡，王廷赞處以绞刑，没收王亶望财产折合白银300万两，史稱甘肃冒赈案。
