Biography

Walther Wüst (7 May 1901, Kaiserslautern – 21 March 1993) was a German Indo-Europeanist and Vedicist in the first half of the 20th century who served as Rector of the University of Munich from 1941 to 1945. Wüst was a committed Nazi, joining the SS in 1936 and being appointed President of the Research Institute of the Ahnenerbe SS in 1937. He eventually attained the rank of Oberführer. He stood trial in 1949 during denazification and was categorized as an offender (Belasteter). His most prominent student was the Indo-Iranianist Karl Hoffmann.
