Biography

Walter von Hippel (27 May 1897 – 29 November 1972) was a highly decorated Generalleutnant in the Luftwaffe during World War II who commanded several Flak Divisions. He was also a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Walter von Hippel was captured in May 1945 by British troops and was held until May 1948.
