Biography
Vassak Mamikonian was the Armenian sparapet for King Arsaces II (Arshak II) (reigned c. 350-368). He was known to be a great general who had many victories against the Persian king Shapur II, but was finally captured along with Arsaces II and flayed. His body was displayed at the gates of the castle where Arsaces II was kept captive.
To symbolize taking power from Armenia, Shapur attempted to have the bones of the Armenian kings taken to Persia. After Mamikonian defeated the Persians and reclaimed the bones of the Arshakuni monarchs, he had them buried at Aghdzk.
Personal life
Mamikonian was born in 315, in Van. They had one daughter, whom they named Sanducht Mamikonian Patriarch of the Armenian Church (born Princess of Armenia).
