Biography
אורי שקד (נולד ב-15 ביוני 1943) הוא פרופסור להנדסת חשמל, דיקן הפקולטה להנדסה באוניברסיטת תל אביב בין השנים 1993 ל-1998 וחתן פרס ישראל לחקר ההנדסה לשנת 2017.
ביוגרפיה
נולד בפתח תקווה בשנת 1943 ולמד בתיכון ברנר בפתח תקווה, ב-1961 התגייס לעתודה האקדמית של צה"ל, ובמסגרתה למד לתואר ראשון ושני בפיזיקה באוניברסיטה העברית. שרת בחיל המודיעין של צה"ל בין השנים 1966–1970.לאחר שחרורו מצה"ל למד לדוקטורט במחלקה למתמטיקה שימושית במכון ויצמן, וב-1974 סיים את התואר בתחום תורת הבקרה.
בין השנים 1974-1976 השתלם באוניברסיטת קיימברידג', אנגליה, ולאחר מכן הצטרף לפקולטה להנדסה באוניברסיטת תל אביב. במשך השנים שימש כפרופסור אורח באוניברסיטת ברקלי ובאוניברסיטת ייל בארצות הברית.
היה ראש המחלקה להנדסת חשמל-מערכות באוניברסיטת תל אביב בין השנים 1985–1989, ודיקן הפקולטה להנדסה באוניברסיטת תל אביב בין השנים 1993–1998.
בשנת 2017 נבחר לזוכה פרס ישראל בתחום חקר ההנדסה. בנימוקי ועדת הפרס צוין כי פרופ' אורי שקד הוא מבכירי המדענים בעולם בתחום הבקרה התאורטית. עבודתו פורצת הדרך הניחה את התשתית לבקרה מודרנית אופטימלית בתנאי אי ודאות, שהשלכותיה רבות, החל מבקרת כלי טיס ועד ליציבות מערכות מבוזרות לניהול אנרגיה. השיטות שפרופ' שקד פיתח נמצאות כיום בשימוש נרחב בכל מגוון התעשיות, כולל בתעשייה הביטחונית הישראלית. לפרופ' שקד תרומה משמעותית גם בהרחבת החינוך המדעי-טכנולוגי בארץ, והוא היה ממובילי המהלך להקמת המכללות האקדמיות להנדסה, שתרמו להנגשת החינוך האקדמי לאוכלוסיות רבות.
שקד מכהן משנת 2017 כיו"ר הסניף הישראלי של IEEE.
