Stephen D. Mackey II (born October 18, 1981, Los Angeles), also known as Stevie Mackey, is an American singer, vocal coach, and vocal producer. He is best known as a cast member of BET’s reality tv series Chasing Destiny with Kelly Rowland and Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood. In addition, he has vocal coached several notable artists and celebrities including Jennifer Lopez, Selena Gomez, Fergie, Christina Milian, and Moniece Slaughter.
Personal life
Mackey earned a degree in graphic design with a minor in vocal performance in 2005 from Oakwood University. He pursued an education in media programming for the Hope Channel located in Southern California. As soon as his vocal coaching talents were recognized by notable musicians and TV shows including MTV and The Voice, he decided to turn full time professional.
Career
Mackey first started as a backing vocalist on his way backstage at a Lalah Hathaway concert for whom he sang. This event was the beginning of his backing vocalist career. Later in his career, he sang for Whitney Houston and also vocal coached some of the Jackson family, cousins and nephews. Around February 2014, he was co-producer and lead vocalist for LoveJo, a debut extended play (EP) by his long time friend and American recording artist JoJo. Mackey also sang for Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson and in the band on NBC’s The Voice. In addition, he has vocal coached several notable artists and celebrities including Jennifer Lopez, Selena Gomez, Fergie, Christina Milian, and Moniece Slaughter.
