Biography

Simon Charles Kunz (born 15 October 1962) is a British stage, film, and television actor.

Early life and education

Simon Charles Kunz was born on October 15, 1962, in London, United Kingdom. He is the grandson of famed American-born British pianist Charlie Kunz.

Kunz attended Latymer Upper School, London, England, and later, the University of Warwick, Coventry, England.

Career

Kunz initially followed the footsteps of his grandfather, Charlie Kunz, and was a musician. After his graduation from the University of Warwick, he became the drummer in the band the Locomotives, in 1984. However, he later decided to pursue a career in acting, making his television debut in 1992, with two episodes of the British crime/drama Between the Lines.

His film debut came two years after in director Mike Newell's comedy/drama Four Weddings and a Funeral (starring Hugh Grant and James Fleet). In 1996, Kunz landed the recurring role of Detective chief inspector Adrian Jackson in the TV series Frontiers.

His most memorable role came in the years 2015-2017 when he was cast as "Odda" in the television series The Last Kingdom. He was seen in 13 episodes of the first and the second season of the series.

On stage, he appeared with the National Theatre (Robert Brackenbury in William Shakespeare's Richard III), the Oxford Stage Company (Oliver in William Shakespeare's As You Like It, Edgar in William Shakespeare's King Lear) in Harold Pinter's The Caretaker at the Bristol Old Vic, John Arden's Live Like Pigs at the Royal Court and Botho StraussThe Park with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

His role as "Max" in Address Unknown (2013) at the Soho Theatre, London, was described as a "superb performance" of a "study in dawning agony".

Most recently, he has finished filming for director Edward Hall's Blithe Spirit (2020) and director Sean EllisEight for Silver (2021). The films are in post-production with release dates yet to be announced.

Personal life

Simon Kunz is married to his wife Brianna Sodi since 2013. The couple has two daughters: Kelly Kunz and Jackeline Kunz (born 2007). Earlier, Kunz was married to his first wife Ashley Philips from 1985 to 1997. They had two children: Adriana Kunz (born 1998) and John Kunz (born 1990.)
