Biography

Shehrbano Taseer Shaikh (Urdu: شہربانو تاثیر) is a journalist with Newsweek and Daily Times, a social and political activist, and the daughter of Salmaan Taseer, the Governor of Punjab, Pakistan who was assassinated in 2011. Militants have threatened to assassinate her if she continues her political activism, drawing comparisons to Malala Yousufzai.

Family

Her father, Salmaan, was half-English and half-Kashmiri, while her mother, Aamna, is Indian. She has a half-brother, Aatish Taseer, and five siblings; Shaan, Shehryar, Shahbaz, Sara, and Sanam. She is the youngest of Salmaan's children.

In August 2011, her brother Shahbaz was kidnapped by militants. Shahbaz Taseer was recovered by security and intelligence forces from Balochistan’s Kuchlak area on 8 March 2016, nearly five years after his abduction in 2011.

In April 2015, she married Amin Ellahi Shaikh, a member of the Board of Directors for Nagina Group, one of Pakistan's largest companies, and the heir apparent to the company, which his parents founded. He is also the Non-Executive Director of Ellcot Spinning Mills, one of Nagina Group's subsidiaries.
