Biography

Shaul Mukamel (born 1948) is a chemist, currently serving as professor at the University of California, Irvine.

Career

Mukamel received his B.Sc. degree from the Tel Aviv University in 1969, with the distinction cum laude. He received his M.Sc. and Ph.D., both summa cum laude, in 1971 and 1976 respectively, again from Tel Aviv University. He has worked at several universities in United States including University of Rochester, where he worked from 1982 to 2003. He has been at University of California, Irvine since then.

Shaul Mukamel has received numerous prized and distinctions including the Alexander von Humboldt Research Award, the Hamburg Prize for Theoretical Physics, and the Ahmed Zewail ACS Award in Ultrafast Science and Technology. During his career prof. Mukamel has published more than 800 scientific papers.

Shaul Mukamel is known for his work in the field of Nonlinear Optics. And famous for his book from 1995 entitled Principles of Nonlinear Optical Spectroscopy. A book known as the 'Bible' to the scientific community.

Shaul Mukamel has worked on diverse topics from Excitons to multi-dimensional spectroscopy, and femtosecond spectroscopy.
