Sandie Jones (1951 – 19 September 2019) was an Irish pop singer.
Early life
Jones was born in 1954, in Crumlin, Dublin. She was one of 11 children and began signing at a young age.
Music career
Over the years Jones had performed with various bands including The Royal Earls Showband, The Dixies and her own, The Sandie Jones Band.
In 1972, she represented Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest with her song Ceol an Ghrá (English: Music of Love.) She is the only singer to have sung in Irish in the Eurovision. She also featured in RTÉ TV shows including My Ireland.
In the 1980s, she left Ireland and moved to the middle-east pursuing a singing career. Eventually, she settled in America.
Death
Jones died on September 19, 2019, at the age of 65, due to illness. She is survived by her siblings Bernadette, Breda, Tony, Paddy, Peter, Paul and Tom.
Her brother, Tony, has opened a GoFundMe campaign to fulfill Sadie's final wish: to be buried in her homeland of Ireland alongside her parents.
