Samuel Ryan Jr. (March 13, 1824 – March 26, 1907) was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly.

Biography

Ryan was born in Sackets Harbor, New York, in 1824. He moved with his parents to Green Bay, Wisconsin, in 1826. In 1853, Ryan established the Appleton Crescent in Appleton, Wisconsin, and served as its editor and publisher. During the American Civil War, Ryan served with the 3rd Wisconsin Volunteer Cavalry Regiment with the rank of sergeant. He was married three times: to Laura E. Knappen in 1847, to Calista M. Crane in 1853, and later to Martha S. Driggs. Martha's sister, Mary, was married to William J. Fisk. Ryan died of pneumonia on March 26, 1907.

Political career

Ryan was a member of the Assembly in 1865. From 1865 to 1873, he was an Outagamie County, Wisconsin, judge. In 1895, Ryan was appointed U.S. Consul in St. John's, Newfoundland. He was a Democrat.
