Biography

Sheikh Muhammad Sadiq (Urdu: شیخ محمد صادق‎) or S M Sadiq is a Pakistani lyricist and a poet whose written songs frequently have been sung by the legendary Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and other famous singers like Attaullah Khan Esakhelvi, Shabnam Majeed and Arif Lohar. He has written thousands of songs in the Punjabi, Urdu and Hindi languages. He is famous not only in Pakistan but also in India.

Early life and career

Sheikh Muhammad Sadiq (S.M.Sadiq) was born in Faisalabad, Punjab, Pakistan. He completed only upto 4th grade education in the primary school. His talent was so much God-gifted, that despite being uneducated, he wrote thousands of songs. He started his career early in his life as a young man and built his way up from there. He first made his big breakthrough in the music field by showing Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan one of his songs and convincing him to record it in Faisalabad, Pakistan. Nusrat liked the song very much and sang it back in 1982 and it ended up being one of his top hit qawwali songs. Writer S M Sadiq's name is mentioned in that song and he gained a lot of recognition from that song. His poetry sung by Ustaad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan attained such popularity which other poets can only envy. He has been in this field for more than 35 years in 2016.
