Biography

Ryan Andrews is a feature film and music video director from Wales. Ryan's work takes from a large amount of genres and styles including internet culture, horror, film noir, fantasy, childhood, and the 90's.

Life and career

Ryan was brought up in Ceredigion in West Wales, where he studied fine art before moving to London to study at the London Film School in Covent Garden where he graduated as a director.

In 2009, Ryan directed 'Family Picnic' for the BBC in which he won a Shout! award for 'Best Director'. After leaving London Film School he gained a job in production designing. His first full length feature as a production designer was a Canadian movie 'Gangster Exchange' which won multiple awards on the independent film festivals. This led to Ryan perusing his career as a director. In 2011 Ryan directed 'Little Munchkin', a dark Christmas fairy tale where an obnoxious middle family fast-track the adoption process of a cannibal child and starring Gwyneth Keyworth, the short was screened at Fright Fest.

In 2010, Ryan directed a short film called 'Jerusalem', about the events surrounding the artist William Blake’s only ever public exhibition of paintings which occurred in London’s Soho in 1809. Told through the eyes of his wife Catherine, it explores the tragedy of a genius misunderstood and ridiculed in his own time. Jerusalem starred Ray Winstone who plays William Blake and Amanda Drue, who plays Blake's wife Catherine. It was written by Philippa Goslett who also wrote 'Little Ashes' starring Robert Pattison.

Ryan directed a mini series Beast Hunters in 2010 which opened on BBC online comedy's launch starring James Corden Jamie Winstone and Robert Llewellyn. The plot surrounded a group of misfit monster hunters.

Ryans Andrews' first movie Elfie Hopkins was theatrically released in 2012 in the UK. It was released in the US under a different name 'Elfie Hopkins: Cannibal hunter'. The film starred Jamie Winstone, the star of 'Made in Dagenham' and 'Kidulthood', and Jamie Winstone's father Ray Winstone. Ryan states that Elfie Hopkins was based on his belief he was a vampire hunter as a child and the film is filmed in the location around the forests of Ceredigion in Wales where Ryan grew up in.

Ryan's music videos are visually unique. Over the last two years he has been creating music videos for (girlfriend) Charli XCX. Nuclear Seasons was one of five named MTV'S Iggy's best of 2012 and You Hahaha has knocked up over one million hit's. The videos range from Tumblr wave, Grindhouse and pure pop. Other videos include. Cloud Aura, What I Like, Take My Hand and Your The One- odd future remix. Other artist's include Odd Future, Eye's on Film and I am a Camera
