Robert Miller (born July 1943), is a Canadian billionaire businessman. He is the co-founder of electronics distributor Future Electronics. Press-shy, Miller is known to donate large sums to individuals, foundations and nations globally.
Early life
Miller was born in July 1943, in Montreal. He was raised in Montreal.
Miller is a graduate of Rider University (then Rider Business College) in New Jersey, USA.
Career
While attending the university, Miller worked as a deejay to support his education. Later, he gave up the deejay job when he got an offer to work with an electronics supplier, Specialty Electronics, in Montreal. After working with the company for a few years, in 1968, he partnered with Eli Manis to create Future Electronics in Pointe Claire, Montreal. The firm manufactures adapter boards for LED screens, microcontrollers and LED lighting. In 1976, Future bought out Manis for $500,000.
Future is now one of the top five electronics components distributors in the world, with approximately $5 billion in revenues.
Forbes, in 2014 reported that according to Miller, over the last 25 years, Future has given away more than half of the profits generated, and the company continues to reach out to underprivileged people in Canada and elsewhere. Miller encourages employees to support charities of their choice and personally matches employee donations 100%.
Miller is also a supporter of the cryonics-focused Alcor Life Extension Foundation.
Personal life
Miller is divorced, with two children, and lives in Montreal, Canada.
