Biography

Pope Eumenes (Emenaios), 7th Pope of Alexandria & Patriarch of the See of St. Mark. He was one of the most respected Christians in Alexandria, Egypt. He was chosen in the month of July (Abib) in the year 129 AD during the reign of the Roman Emperor Hadrian. He also took over from Pope Justus as the second Dean of The Catechetical School of Alexandria (also known as the Theological School of Alexandria).
During his time he ordained several Bishops for the See of St. Mark, and he sent them to preach in all the provinces of Egypt, Nubia and to Pentapolis and to spread the good news of the Salvation.
The persecution of the Christians increased during the time of this righteous Patriarch and many Copts were martyred. Eumanius remained on the Throne of Alexandria for thirteen years pleasing God and the people and he departed on the 9th of Babah (19 October) in the year 141 AD.
