Biography

Peter Galassi (born 1951) is an American writer, curator, and art historian working in the field of photography.

Education

Galassi holds a B.A. in Visual and Environmental Studies from Harvard College (1972) and a Ph.D. in Art History and Archaeology from Columbia University (1986).

Life and work

Galassi was Chief Curator of Photography at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) from 1991 to 2011. He started his career at MoMA as a Curatorial Intern (1974–1975), Associate Curator (1981–1986), and Curator (1986–1991) working with photography curator John Szarkowski.
