Biography

Nasrine Seraji-Bozorgzad AA dipl RIBA (born 1957) is an Iranian-British architect. She is a 2011 recipient of the Knight of the Legion of Honour.

Early life

Seraji was born in Tehran, Iran.

Career

Seraji was among the founders of Atelier Seraji, Architects and Partners in Paris and is dean of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture Paris-Malaquais. She graduated from the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London in 1983. In 1989, she relocated to Paris and the following year launched her own agency, Atelier Seraji.

Seraji's international teaching roles between 1993 and 2001 include Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation in New York, as the diploma unit master at the Architectural Association in London and as a visiting professor at Princeton University in New Jersey. Between 2001 and 2005, Seraji served as a professor and chair of the Department of Architecture at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. The following year, she was appointed dean of the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Paris-Malaquais and also began teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, where she served as a multidisciplinary professor in the fields of ecology, sustainability and conservation. In 2014, she was appointed centennial visiting professor of design at Hong Kong University.

In 2006, Seraji was honored with the medal for Chevalier des Arts et des Letters from the Minister of Culture in France for her major contributions to art and humanities and as they relate to education in France. In 2008, she received both the Chevalier dans l'Ordre National du Mérite and the Médaille d'Argent by the French Academy of Architecture. In July 2011, she received the Chevalier de l'Ordre National de la Légion d'Honneur.
