Tajik national poet Mirzo Tursunzoda(1911-1977) was an important Tajikistani poet and a prominent political figure.
Early life and career
Tursunzoda born on 19 April 1911 in the village of Karatag, Regar district, Tajikistan in the family of craftsmen.
He attended Dushanbe boarding school, and later, the Pedagogical College. After graduation, he began his career as a journalist in the newspaper "Komsomol Tojikiston."
He contributed immensely towards the cultural development of the country. His popularity and fame earned him the status of Hero of the Tajik people. In addition, his face appears on the front of the one Somoni note. In his honor, his native town was renamed to Tursunzoda.
The Memorial and Literature Museum in Dushanbe was founded in 1981 in honor of Tursunzoda's 70th anniversary. The Museum is located in the private house of Tursunzoda, and is owned by the Academy of Science.
