Biography
Mary Garrard is an American art historian. An emerita professor at American University, she is considered "one of the founders of feminist art theory" and particularly known for her work on the Baroque painter Artemisia Gentileschi.
Education and career
Garrard received her BA from H. Sophie Newcomb Memorial College (1958), her MA from Harvard University (1960), and her PhD from Johns Hopkins University.
With Norma Broude, she edited a number of books on art history, and curated an exposition (Claiming Space: Some American Feminist Originators, 2007) at the Katzen Arts Center.
