Biography

Lynn Sweet (May 15, 1951) is an American journalist.  She is currently a columnist and Washington Bureau Chief at the Chicago Sun-Times. Earlier, she was a columnist at AOL’s PoliticsDaily. Sweet covers politics and government from Chicago's street brawls to the White House.

She is based on Washington, DC.

Early life and education

Sweet was born on May 15, 1951. She is a Chicago native, where she attended the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.

She received her undergraduate degree in journalism from the University of California at Berkeley. Later, in 1975, she earned a Master’s degree in journalism, from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism.

Career

Sweet is known for reporting mostly on American and world politics. 

In 1990, Sweet was one of the first journalists in the U.S. to analyze political ads for accuracy. In 2002, she covered the Israel-Palestine conflict from the ground as the situation was worsening. In spring 2004 Sweet was named a fellow at Harvard University's Institute of Politics at the Kennedy School of Government.

In 2009, white at Chicago Sun-Times, she was a part of “By the People: The Election of Barack Obama,”  a documentary on the political life of Barack Obama.

In 2016, Sweet was inducted into the Medill Hall of Achievement in 2006.

Over the years, she has appeared on numerous television news shows including CNN Newsroom,  At This Hour (CNN,) Reliable Sources (CNN), Lou Dobbs Tonight (CNN,) MSNBC Live, Weekends with Alex Witt (MSNBC,) Chris Jansing & Company (MSNBC,) NewsNation with Tamron Hall (MSNBC,) Martin Bashir (MSNBC,) Hardball with Chris Matthews (MSNBC,) and Charlie Rose (PBS.)

She is a past president of the Washington Press Club Foundation and is a member of the Gridiron Club.

Additionally, Sweet has also contributed for The Hill and The Huffington Post.
