Lisa R. Fredenthal-Lee, also known as Lisa, is an international recording artist.

Lisa R. Fredenthal-Lee: Painter, Sculptor and inventor of numerous unique and highly original mediums. Born in Detroit, Michigan USA; into an artistic dynasty, with a broad array of artists and performers, going back generations.

A graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute, Lisa Fredenthal became one of the principle artists and a major contributor to the original SOMA art scene of the 1970s and 80s. Lisa is primarily renowned as a painter on canvas and highly regarded for her rich texture, vibrant color work and diversity of subject matter. Ms. Fredenthal is equally regarded for her re-use of discarded/discovered materials and the wealth of innovation that she generates from these materials.

Mixed media: Prior to 1982 Lisa had no formal training or interest in the music business; however the artist seized upon a chance opportunity to utilize pop music as a performance platform; using her own body as a canvas, Lisa applied her primary skills to textiles; in 1984 Ms. Fredenthal performed as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations at The San Francisco Modern Art Museum, having created an original piece specifically for the event. (More information: to be found on this period below)

Lisa received a Spirit Foundation grant in 2002. The grant enabled Lisa to produce the television program entitled “Don’t Throw That Away“ dedicated to the subject of art created from ‘Re-use’; in all, nine episodes were produced between 2003 and 2008; produced in co-operation with the PBS affiliate KRCB, the program was aired nationwide throughout the PBS network.

Ms. Fredenthal was one of the first artists to exploit scanner generated archival pigment printing as an original medium; rather than using the device, in the conventional way, for the reproduction of pre-existing pieces rendered in other mediums. Lisa saw the opportunity to use the scanner, originally, by erecting a variety of compositions and collages directly on the machine table. In 1995 this was considered to be a ground breaking approach to the use and application of the technology. To the artist, the manipulation of the mechanism was yet one more tool to be utilized and, in this regard, no different than picking up a brush or a palette knife!

In the spring of 2014 Lisa completed the Sun's of the World Series, relief sculpture generated from the remains of shoe inserts, deli trays and pulped egg cartons; a medium entirely 'unique' to the artist. From there she went on to create figurative compositions comprised from the printed interiors of the security envelopes that her bills arrived in; currently working on works for exhibition 'Precious', yet one more highly original and innovative medium. Lisa R. Fredenthal-Lee is still very actively developing new mediums, in collaboration with her partner Robert Lee, as well as producing some of her best work on canvas, at her studio in Santa Rosa California. Her most contemporary pieces and a comprehensive record of her artwork can readily be located by clicking the external link below.

Also known for her Hi NRG, Synth-pop and Disco style, she released her first singles Jump Shout and Rocket To Your Heart in 1982. The self-titled LP Lisa was released in 1983, cover art by Lisa and Robert Lee. Following were many successful singles including -Love Is Like an Itching in My Heart- and in 1992 Jump Shout the album came to market. In 1996 The Best of Lisa album released in the US.
