Biography

Lee Webb was the anchor of The 700 Club, the flagship program of The Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN), and Newswatch, a half-hour daily news program also on CBN. He was born in Pompano Beach, Florida. Since September 2013, he has served as the vice-president of broadcasting for Ligonier Ministries in Sanford, Florida.

Career

After graduating from Auburn University in 1975, he anchored and reported sports for WSFA-TV in Montgomery, Alabama. He worked as sports anchor for NBC affiliate WCKT (now WSVN) in Miami from 1977 to 1983, again for WCVB-TV in Boston in 1983, and weeknight news anchor for WTLV, the NBC affiliate in Jacksonville in 1986. Webb was fired from WTLV in January 1994 after failing to obtain permission from network management to appear and speak at a Christian Coalition Leadership Conference being held in Jacksonville where said he agreed to appear under the condition that no one tell the media he spoke at the event. In his lecture, Webb advised the evangelical leaders in training how to use the media and reporters to their advantage and the avenues they should take to air their grievances. Many supporters derided WTLV's decision to suspend and later fire Webb on the misconception that it was due to his beliefs and called for a boycott of the station. He helped found Christians in the Media, a fellowship for local journalists, and is an elder in the Presbyterian Church in America.

In addition, he has performed eight years of military service, including deployment to Central America and Operation Desert Shield. He was a captain in the Florida Army National Guard.
