Lee Pearson (born 4 January 1981) is an American jazz drummer.
Early life and education
Lee Pearson was born on January 4, 1981, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Lee Sr. and Judith Pearson. He began to show interest in playing drums at the age of two and his parents bought him his first drum set when he was three. His first teacher was his mother, an organist at the Messiah's Temple where his dad was the pastor.
Pearson graduated from the Baltimore School for the Arts. After high school, he attended the Manhattan School of Music in New York City.
Career
Pearson served as a member of the Duke Ellington Orchestra and the Roy Ayers Band and has toured in Japan several times since 2009 as a drummer for the Great Jazz Trio led by Hank Jones.
Over the years, he has recorded with such notable musicians as Roy Hargrove, John Hicks, Kenny Barron, Christian McBride, Mike Stern, Peter Bernstein, David Murray, The World Saxophone Quartet, Ronnie Laws, Lonnie Liston Smith, Wayne Henderson, Tom Brown, and Hamiet Bluiett.
In addition to recordings, Pearson has toured and performed with Chris Botti, Sting, Spyro Gyra, Mark Gross, Antonio Hart, Mike Stern, Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, Roy Ayers, Chaka Khan, Lonnie Liston Smith, Gene Con, Bobbi Humphrey, Ronnie Laws, Jon Lucien, Hank Jones, John Hicks, James Carter, Adam Rodger, John Medeski, Bobby Watson, Kenny Garrett, Little Jimmy Scott, Tim Warfield, Javon Jackson, Roy Hargrove, Casey Benjamin, The Duke Ellington Orchestra, The Cab Calloway Orchestra, Donald Harrison, Curtis Lundy, Wayne Henderson, David Murray, and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno Band.
Pearson uses Vater Manhattan 7a drum sticks and Sabian Cymbals.
