Kristen Stewart is an American actress. She gained prominence in in 2002 for playing Jodie Foster's daughter in the movie Panic Room, for which she received a nomination for Young Artist Award for Best Leading Actress in a Feature Film.
Early life and education
Stewart was born on April 9, 1990 in Los Angeles, California to John Stewart and Jules Mann-Stewart, who work in show business. She has an older brother, Cameron, and two adopted brothers, Dana and Taylor.
The family moved to Colorado, where they lived for several years before moving back to Los Angeles.
Growing up, she had always wanted to become a screenwriter, or a director, but not an actor, because she didn't like being the center of attention.
She caught attention of an agent when she was performing in a Christmas play at her elementary school. She was eight at the time.
She attended local schools until the seventh grade, and completed high school via correspondence as she got busier with her acting career.
She loves reading, and she intends to go to college to study literature.
Her career began with a small, nonspeaking part in the Disney Channel TV-movie "The Thirteenth Year."
In her next movie, "The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas," she played the "ring toss girl".
In 2001, she appeared as the tomboy daughter of a single mother Patricia Clarkson in an independent film, "The Safety of Objects".
In 2002, when she was twelve, she appeared in the movie "Panic Room," in which she played the role of a tomboy daughter of a divorced mother, Jodie Foster. Her performance was lauded, and she received a nomination for Young Artist Award for Best Leading Actress in a Feature Film.
Her first major role came at age 14 in the children's action-comedy Catch That Kid (2004), in which she worked alongside Max Thieriot and Corbin Bleu. The same year, she also worked in the film Undertow.
In 2004, she also acted in a Television movie "Speak," which was based on the novel by the same name by Laurie Halse Anderson. Her performance was widely appreciated.
In 2007, she appeared in the film "In the Land of Women", alongside Meg Ryan and Adam Brody.
She also played a small role in Stewart the Sean Penn-directed movie Into the Wild.
In October 2008, she appeared in the movie "What Just Happened."
In 2008, she played the lead female character opposite Robert Pattinson in the film Twilight. The film was based on Stephenie Meyer's bestselling vampire romance novel by the same name.
In 2009, she acted in Adventureland. The film was written and directed by Greg Mottola, has Jesse Eisenberg as her co-star. Her worked was lauded, with Variety magazine calling Stewart "the heart and soul of the film."
In 2014, she became the face for the Western-inspired fashion collection for Chanel. The campaign was shot by Karl Lagerfeld.
In 2014, she acted in "Camp X-Ray", which was premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival.
In 2014, she worked alongside Julianne Moore in the film "Still Alice."
In 2015, Stewart co-starred with Jesse Eisenberg again in the film "American Ultra".
In an interview in July 2016, she stated that she will be directing a short film "Come Swim" for the digital publisher Refinery29.
