Khalida Safarova (Azerbaijani: Xalidə Səfərova; 25 August 1925 – 23 December 2005) was a painter, Honored Art Worker and People's Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR.
Biography
Khalida Safarova was born on August 25, 1925 in Ganja, Azerbaijan. She was graduated from Painting School named after Azim Azimzade in 1944. Then she graduated from All-Union State Institute of Cinematography in 1955 in Moscow. She married Mahmud Taghiyev in 1947. Their joint exhibition was held in 1947. More than 150 paintings were demonstrated in the exhibition.
Main genres in her creativity are landscape, portrait and still life. "Mahmud Taghiyev", "Maral Rahmanzadeh", "Leyla Vakilova" were the famous portrait works of the artist. She also painted illustrations for "Khosrow and Shirin", "Ashiq Qarib". Khalida Safarova played a certain role in the 60-70s - on the eve of the spread of impressionism in Azerbaijani painting. "Spring", "Pomegranate Flower", "Foggy Morning", "Spring on the Lawn", "Autumn Sun", "When the Cotton Blossoms" are the examples. The painter had sports theme works as "Players", "Relay", "Chovken".
In 1985 Khalida Safarova went on a trip to France, the land of impressionism. "Autumn in Provence", "Arl Cafe", "Marseille port", several variants of "Paris Notre Dame Cathedral", "Purple Night", "Site" are the works she painted during the travel. These works were demonstrated in The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Paris. In 2003 Khalida Safarova's personal exhibition was held in The Embassy of France in Baku. During various years of her work, her paintings had been exhibited in Russia, Turkey, Romania, Hungary, Poland, Algeria, Israel and other countries. Her personal exhibition was held in Baku in 1984 and in Moscow in 1990.
In 1977 Khalida Safarova was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR, in 1989 People's Artist of the Azerbaijani SSR. The works of the artist are currently in museums and private collections in the US, Germany, Russia, Turkey, Czech Republic.
Khalida Safarova died on December 23, 2005 in Baku.
