Kenny Feinstein is an American fiddler, guitarist, mandolinist, and singer. He is the founder of the Los Angeles-based indie-folk/bluegrass band Water Tower.
Feinstein was born and raised in California, Japan (elementary education), and Mexico City (high school).
He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Jazz Music from the University of Oregon, Eugene, Oregon, following which he became a music teacher and worked as a freelance musician (guitar, violin, mandolin, and banjo.)
In September 2013, Feinstein released his debut solo album titled Loveless: Hurts To Love, with Portland, Oregon-based label Fluff and Gravy Records. The cover album contains all eleven tracks from My Bloody Valentine's second album Lovelessplus the track "Swallow" from their 1991 EP Tremolo, but rendered with acoustic guitar, piano, strings, and a variety of other acoustic instruments, instead of the electric guitar. The album was produced by Jeff Kazor (of The Crooked Jades) and Bruce Kaphan (of American Music Club). Richard Buckner also featured on the background vocals and ukulele.
Currently, Feinstein fronts the Los Angeles-based indie-folk/bluegrass band Water Tower. The other two members are Joe "Juice" Bergland (on Fiddle, Banjo, Bass, Vocals) and Tom "Tommy" Drinkard (on Banjo, Fiddle, Lap-Steel, Vocals). The group was originally founded in 2006 in Portland and was called "Water Tower Bucket Boys." In 2012, they changed the name to "Water Tower" after the release of their 2011 album titled "Meet Me Where The Crow Don't Fly." Their previous albums under the old name are The Squid and the Fiddle (2008), Catfish on the Line (2009), Eel-p (2009), Sole and Kitchen (2010.)
Water Tower's most recent album, Fly Around, was released on 24 April 2020 under Portland's Dutch Records. The album was produced by The Germs' drummer Don Bolles and recorded at Deer Lodge Studios in Portland. Indie musician Ariel Pink also assisted in the production. Other musicians to feature on the album are Ron Reyes (second singer of Black Flag), Willie Watson (founding member of Old Crow Medicine Show) and Gene Louis (front-man of Bullets and Octane.) Around the time of the recording, the band relocated from Portland, Oregon to Los Angeles, California.
