Biography

John Wiedeman is an American broadcaster who is the radio play-by-play announcer for the National Hockey League's Chicago Blackhawks.

Career

Wiedeman succeeded the popular Pat Foley as the Hawks' radio announcer for the 2006–2007 season. He was the radio voice of the New York Islanders from 2001 to 2006 and for the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1996–97 season. In addition he also did fill-in work for the 1997-98 Tampa Bay Lightning and the 2001-02 Columbus Blue Jackets. He also worked for several minor league teams, including the Cincinnati Cyclones, Muskegon Fury and Worcester IceCats.

Wiedeman's best-known moment was calling game 6 of the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals, where the Hawks won their first cup in 49 years. Like nearly everyone else, he wasn't sure if Patrick Kane's game-winning shot had gone over the line. However, once the replay confirmed that it was a goal, Wiedeman bellowed, "Lord Stanley's new address is sweet home Chicago!" After the Blackhawks won the 2013 Stanley Cup Finals, Wiedeman proclaimed "Lord Stanley is moving back to the Windy City!" and two years later, after the Blackhawks won the 2015 Stanley Cup Finals where the Hawks won the first Stanley Cup at home in 77 years, Wiedeman proclaimed "Lord Stanley, the Blackhawks organization, along with the greatest fans in all of hockey, welcome you back to your new home, Chicago, Illinois, in the U.S. of A!"
