John Craven Wilkinson is an academic scholar on Islamic studies expertise on Ibadi studies.

Biography

John C. Wilkinson is a British expert in the field of Ibadi studies. John C. Wilkinson worked for several years in international oil companies in the middle East. After this period of working in the middle East he went back to Oxford and he wrote his doctoral thesis with subject the Ibadi Imamate of Oman. He finished his Ph. D. thesis in 1969 with the title Arab settlement in Oman: the origins and development of the tribal pattern and its relationship to the Imamate. After completing his Ph. D thesis in the decades of 1970 and 1980 John Wilkinson entered the field of Ibadi studies with several publications and works. JohnWilkinson from 1969 until his retirement on 1997 was teaching in the Oxford University as a Reader, a university lecturer of the highest grade below professor. Also he was an Emeritus Fellow of St. Hugh's College in Oxford. Valerie Hoffman have wrote that there is no other western scholar who know so many information about the tribes of Oman especially about his work Water and tribal settlement in South-East Arabia.
