Biography

Jeffrey Charles "Jeff" McCarthy is an American actor.

Television

He made guest star appearances on television shows such as Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Ed, Designing Women, Cheers, Freddy's Nightmares, Matlock, and In the Heat of the Night. McCarthy was the voice of the Chuck Jones' creation, Michigan J. Frog, for the WB television network. McCarthy played the father of Wayne (Freddy Geiger) on the short lived CBS show Love Monkey. McCarthy played Albert Schweitzer in Albert Schweitzer: Called to Africa, a TV film on PBS.

Star Trek

He has made guest appearances on two Star Trek series; on Star Trek: The Next Generation, he appeared in the season 3 episode "The Hunted" as Roga Danar, and in the pilot episode of Star Trek: Voyager entitled "Caretaker" as chief medical officer Dr. Fitzgerald of the USS Voyager who was killed in the premiere episode.

Theatre

In theatre, McCarthy debuted on Broadway in 1983, playing opposite Anthony Quinn in Zorba. He went on to play Bob Freelander in the ill-fated Smile, the following year. In 2001, McCarthy created the role of Officer Lockstock in the original cast of the Broadway musical Urinetown. He played the Beast in the Broadway production of Beauty and the Beast, and Terry in the original cast of Side Show. In 2004, McCarthy reprised his role as the Beast in Beauty and the Beast for eight weeks. He played Dubhdara in the recent musical The Pirate Queen. In 2008, 2009 and 2011, McCarthy played Billy Flynn in Chicago, the long-running Broadway revival. In 2012, McCarthy played the title role in the stage version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas! at Madison Square Garden. Most recently, McCarthy created the title character in Jeffrey Sweet's Kunstler about the radical civil rights attorney, William Kunstler; GPR records recorded the performance and will be available on various sites on the internet.
