Biography

Jaime Arturo Lozano Espín (born September 29, 1978 in Mexico City) is a retired Mexican football player who last played for UNAM. In UANL, he played in the midfielder position with the number 21. However, at Cruz Azul he was employed as more of a defensive wingback. He is often simply called "Jimmy" Lozano, however, sometimes he is also called in other media as "El Actor" because he was born to a family of actors. Lozano currently serves as Queretaro FC's team head coach.

Club career

He debuted with Pumas UNAM in 1998, and until 2001, when he moved to Celaya to play for a team that then contested in the Primera División (First Division), but has since been relegated. In 2002 he returned to Pumas where he won the Mexican Championship twice. After that, Lozano had problems renewing his contract for the following tournament and became a free agent. He signed on with Tigres UANL for the next two years.

International career

Lozano was called up to the Mexico national team many times; he became an instrumental part in the qualification to the 2006 FIFA World Cup, scoring several important goals. However, a series of injuries kept him away from the team in the matches previous to the tournament. Nevertheless, he was nominated by Ricardo Lavolpe in a list of 26 players from which he would get the definitive list of 23, in the hope that his condition would improve for the competition. However, he performed poorly and did not make the final list. He played three matches for Mexico in the 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup and eleven games in the 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Lozano was one of the players selected by Hugo Sánchez to compete in the Copa América 2007. He made his first appearance in the tournament coming on as a sub during Mexico's victory over Brazil (2-0).

Managerial Career

Queretaro FC

After winning the U-20 Clausura Liga MX title with Queretaro FC's U-20 team, Lozano was promoted to be an assistant coach at Queretaro FC's senior team under Victor Manuel Vucetich. After Vucetich was sacked on January 31st 2017, Lozano was appointed manager.
