Born in Perugia, Ferroni started in the mid 1930s as documentary director and assistant director of Gennaro Righelli, then he debuted as director in 1937, specializing in adventure films. After the war he directed a couple of neorealist films, Pian delle stelle and Tombolo, paradiso nero.
