Biography
Frank Gregan is an English former manager and footballer who managed the likes of Forest Green Rovers and Welsh Premier League side Aberystwyth Town as well as spending time working as a scout for the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Bristol Rovers.
Career
Gregan spent 25 years in the British army becoming a sergeant-major and during his time in the service undertook his coaching qualifications through the Army F.A.. During his time in the army Gregan also played semi-professionally in England, Australia and Germany but at the age of 31 a stress fracture led to his retirement from playing.
He then became a scout for Newcastle United while living in Australia and on his return to England became a scout at Arsenal. After leaving Arsenal, he worked under John Ward at Bristol Rovers as a scout.
He then became a coach at Warminster Town and eventually Andover before becoming the manager at Gloucestershire side Forest Green Rovers in 1994.
In his time as manager of Forest Green the club enjoyed back to back promotions, eventually winning the Dr Martens Premier Division in 1998 and in doing so earning promotion in to the Conference National. In Rovers first season in the Conference he led Forest Green to the 1999 FA Trophy final at Wembley where Forest Green lost 1–0 to fellow league rivals Kingstonian.
Gregan was sacked by Forest Green in November 2000 and former England international Nigel Spink and David Norton replaced him at The Lawn. He went on to work as a scout for Manchester City after leaving Forest Green, scouting City's opposition in forthcoming games and in 2002 Forest Green held a testimonial against a Manchester City reserve team featuring Joey Barton in his honour.
He was then appointed manager of Welsh side Aberystwyth Town in the summer of 2001 but left after a few months having been knocked out of the Welsh Cup by Aberaman Athletic and the FAW Premier Cup by Caersws.
Gregan was then appointed manager of Weston-super-Mare in February 2002 and he led the Seagulls to the first round of the F A Cup in 2003. In September 2004, he was linked with the vacant managerial role at Newport County. In 2005, Gregan was again heavily linked with a role at a different club, this time the vacant managerial role at Bath City after the departure of Gary Owers. Having achieved promotion in to the Dr Martens Premier Division in his first season as Weston-super-Mare boss, he again took Weston up a division in to the Conference South following league restrucuting before eventually leaving in 2007.
He then became manager of Bristol based Mangotsfield United in June 2007 alongside Darren Perrin and Mike Kilgour. He left the club in March 2008 however, leaving Mangotsfield in the relegation zone.
