Fei Yao

Fei Yao was a military general of Cao Wei during the Three Kingdoms period of Chinese history.

Fei served as General of the Rear (後將軍) in the state of Cao Wei. In 220, he followed Zhang Ji and Xiahou Ru (夏侯儒) to suppress a rebellion by Zhang Jin (張進) in Jiuquan (present-day northwestern Gansu). In 228, he defended Chencang from Shu Han forces led by Zhuge Liang. In 231, he followed Sima Yi to attack Shu Han, fighting alongside Zhang He, Guo Huai and Dai Ling. They were defeated.

In Luo Guanzhong's historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Fei Yao's name was written as 費耀 instead of 費曜. He was one of Cao Zhen's subordinates and he participated in the defense of Cao Wei from Zhuge Liang's second Northern Expedition. He suspected that Jiang Wei was pretending to defect to Shu Han, so he went to battle in place of Cao Zhen. He was surrounded in an ambush set by Jiang, and committed suicide.
