Biography

Ernesto Alexis Vega Rojas (born 25 November 1997) is a Mexican professional footballer who plays as a forward for Liga MX club Guadalajara.

Club career

Toluca

Vega began his football career in 2015 with Deportivo Toluca. Vega managing to successfully go through U-17 and U-20 youth academy. His performances led coach José Cardozo to promote Vega to the first-team.

Vega made his senior team debut at 18 years old under coach José Saturnino Cardozo on 27 February 2016 as a 68' substitute for Christian Cueva in a home league match against Pachuca in the Nemesio Díez Stadium. On 2 March 2016 he made his debut in the 2016 Copa Bridgestone Libertadores against San Lorenzo in a group-stage match in the Estadio Pedro Bidegain in Argentina coming on as an 85' substitute for Enrique Triverio. On 5 April he scored his first professional goal for Toluca in the Copa Libertadores against LDU de Quito, the game ended 2-1 and Toluca qualified to the Round of 16.

On April 16, Vega scored his first two goals in the Liga MX at minutes 2' and 41' against Veracruz. On April 26, he was sent off for the first time in his short career at minute 87' after a brutal slide from behind on Rodrigo Caio from São Paulo in a Copa Libertadores Round of 16 match played in the Estádio do Morumbi which ended 4-0 to the Brasileirão team.

Guadalajara

On 8 December 2018 it was announced that Vega was joining Guadalajara for a reported €9 million, making his transfer one of the most expensive in the history of the club.

After playing six games without any goals and going three straight games without any wins on February 16, 2019 Vega managed to score 3 goals in the 3-0 victory against Club Atlas. Vega scoring his first career hat-trick with Chivas in the Clásico Tapatío.

International career

He made his debut for the Mexico national football team on 26 March 2019 in a friendly against Paraguay, as a 78th-minute substitute for Javier Hernández. In May 2019, Vega was included in Gerardo Martino's provisional 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup roster and was subsequently included in the final list. In the first group stage match against Cuba, he would score his first goal with the national team in a 7–0 thrashing. Mexico would go on to win the tournament.
