Biography
Ermin Bičakčić (born 24 January 1990) is a Bosnian professional footballer who plays as a centre back for German club 1899 Hoffenheim and the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team.
Club career
On 27 October 2010, Bičakčić made his debut for the VfB Stuttgart first team, during the second round of the 2010–11 DFB-Pokal against Chemnitzer FC. On 1 December 2010, he had his first appearance in the Europa League against Young Boys. On 19 December 2010, he made his Bundesliga debut against Bayern München.
On 8 January 2012, Bičakčić moved to Eintracht Braunschweig. In Braunschweig he became a regular starter in the 2. Bundesliga, missing only one league game between February 2012 and May 2013. At the end of the 2012–13 2. Bundesliga season, Bičakčić and his team won promotion to the Bundesliga.
On 20 May 2014, after relegation of Eintracht Braunschweig to 2. Bundesliga, Bičakčić signed for 1899 Hoffenheim.
International career
Bičakčić acquired a German passport on 16 May 2008 and made his debut for the German under-18 on 22 May 2008, in a game against Turkey under-19.
On 21 April 2009, Bičakčić made his first appearance for Bosnia and Herzegovina under-19, playing against Slovenia under-19. After his 21st birthday, Bičakčić renounced his Bosnian citizenship to comply with German nationality laws. In June 2013, he regained his Bosnian citizenship and now holds dual citizenship. In July 2013 he received his first senior call-up for Bosnia and Herzegovina and subsequently made his debut in a friendly against the United States on 14 August 2013. He scored his first international goal against Slovakia on 10 September 2013, in a 2–1 away win.
He was part of the Bosnian squad at their first major tournament, the 2014 FIFA World Cup. He played their opening game, a 1–2 defeat against Argentina at the Maracanã Stadium, but did not feature in their other games as they were eliminated from the group stage.
On September 6, after long time, he returned to starting 11 in a competitive match, Euro 2016 qualifying game against Andorra, and scored a goal in the process. The game ended in a 3–0 victory for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
