Partial bibliography

  • Something Queer at the Birthday Party, Mordicai Gerstein (illustrator), (1990), Delacorte Press, ISBN 978-0-385-29973-2 - "Farcical illustrations help propel this energetic story"
  • Keep Ms. Sugarman in the Fourth Grade, Dave Henderson (illustrator) (1992), HarperCollins, ISBN 978-0-06-020426-6 - "The prolific Levy ... writes in tribute to a former teacher (named Sugarman) and conveys skillfully the impact good teaching has on students. The dialogue is often trite, however, and Jackie's frequent disrespectfulness toward her elders is an unattractive flaw. Some New Testament references bring a slightly religious tone to the story, yet it's an easy read that effectively illustrates teacher-pupil attachments."
  • Cheater, Cheater, (1993), Scholastic, ISBN 978-0-590-45865-8 - "Additional bits of pat plotting lessen the impact of the novel's intriguing central issue. However, believable dialogue and a likable heroine will give readers plenty to enjoy."
  • School Spirit Sabotage: A Brian and Pea Brain Mystery, George Ulrich (Illustrator), George M. Ulrich (Photographer), (1994), Harper Collins, ISBN 978-0-06-023407-2 - "Despite the gaps and discrepancies in the plot, the fast pace and gentle humor that are the hallmarks of the popular author of Dracula Is a Pain in the Neck will provide ample entertainment."
  • My Life as a Fifth-Grade Comedian, (1997), Harper Collins, ISBN 978-0-06-026602-8 - "The fine line that divides comedy from bitterness and teasing from harassment is poignantly explored: we laugh in order not to cry."
  • Seventh Grade Tango, (2000), Hyperion Books for Children, ISBN 978-0-7868-0498-6 - "Readers will likely enjoy a turn on the dance floor with this likable couple."
  • Who are you Calling a Woolly Mammoth?: Prehistoric America, Daniel McFeeley (illustrator), J.R. Havlan (additional material), (2000), Scholastic, ISBN 978-0-590-12938-1 - "a punchy perspective on the past"
  • Awesome Ancient Ancestors!, Daniel McFeeley (illustrator), J.R. Havlan (additional material), (2001), Scholastic, ISBN 978-0-439-30349-1 - "a punchy perspective on the past"
  • Danger & Diamonds: a mystery at sea, Mordicai Gerstein (illustrator), (2010), Roaring Brook Press, ISBN 978-1-59643-462-2 - "Though the dialogue and plot lean toward cliché, ... the story maintains interest with unusual vocabulary ... and vignettes about cruise ship life. Philippa's narration keeps readers guessing about Philip, who, through her eyes, fluctuates between normalcy and arrogant secrecy. Double spreads occasionally feature Gerstein's (A Book) b&w cartoon-styled line art, breaking up the action for budding chapter book readers. A predictable ending wraps up the tale, but not before a climactic seaside horseback ride."
  • Paula Danziger's Amber Brown is Tickled Pink, Bruce Coville (co-author), Tony Ross (illustrator), Paula Danziger (inspiration), (2012), G. P. Putnam's Sons, ISBN 978-0-399-25656-1 - "... they channel the voice of Danziger's funny, acerbic, and pun-loving heroine. ... the authors deliver a sensitive portrait of a child handling divorce ... Coville and Levy do splendid service both to this character and her creator."
