On 16 December 2016, Ghosh was allegedly injured during protests condemning comments made by Maulauna Noor-ur Rahman Barkati, the Shahi Iman of the Tipu Sultan Mosque in Kolkata, in which West Bengal BJP Secretary Deboshree Chowdhury, Baisnabnagar MLA Swadhin Kumar Sarkar and other local BJP leaders were arrested. Barakati said that Ghosh should be "pelted with stones and kicked out of Bengal" after Ghosh made a remark about Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banarjee by saying that his party could have “dragged” her “by the hair” when she was in New Delhi, but had chosen not to. The BJP claimed that Ghosh was allegedly injured during the protests by the police who tried to stop the protest.
