Dennis Canfield (born April 28, 1980) is a Level 4 Certified USA Hockey coach and former collegiate and minor professional goaltender. He was the co-founder of the Jamestown Jets, and currently owns and operates a hockey training and placement company. Canfield runs camps both in the United States and also internationally in Europe specializing in player development. Canfield has had the privilege to work with many top current and former Junior, NCAA, and NHL coaches as a player and coach.

Playing career

  • 2000-01 - Canfield appeared on three rosters in the OPJHL for Ajax, Cobourg, and Aurora for combined total of 368 minutes.
  • 2001-02 - Canfield appeared on three rosters in the CEHL for Downriver, Jackson, and Bay County.
  • 2002-03 - No playing record.
  • 2003-04 - Canfield made his NCAA playing debut as sophomore for St. Anselm College appearing in 148 minutes.
  • 2004-05 - No playing record.
  • 2005-06 - No playing record.
  • 2006-07 - Canfield played for Findlay Freedom of the North Eastern Hockey League. Canfield was named player of the week for December 9 and 10. On December 12, 2006, Canfield was made history by being the first Findlay Freedom player to get called up to a higher level to Dayton Bombers of the ECHL. Dennis was released by the Toledo Storm on January 10, 2007.

Coaching career

  • 2008-09 (GP:46 W:30 L:11 OTL:5 GF:285 GA:215 PTS:65) Canfield was a co-founder Jamestown Jets, named director of hockey operations and head coach. The Jets won the President Trophy (UJHL) in their first season for being the regular-season champions and would eventually lose in the league finals of the best-of-3 series to the Findlay Growwl. Several Jets won league honors including Forward Joe Coyne (Scoring Champion) and Tyler Underhill (Most Goals)
  • 2009-10 (GP:51 W:22 L:26 OTL:3 GF:248 GA:264 PTS:47) 3rd Place, lost semifinal. The Jets qualified for the playoffs, and the team's Captain Nate Hughes was named the League MVP. He has since attended SUNYAC Morrisville (NCAA DIII).
  • 2010-11 (GP:42 W:27 L:12 OTL:3 GF:247 GA:194 PTS:57) 3rd place overall GMJHL. South Division Title lost quarterfinal. The Jets became the 1st American team to participate in the Greater Metro Hockey League. The team would win the South Division title and were led by the 2010-11 GMHL Top Defensemen Tyler Nelson.
