Dayna Steele (born Dayna Frances Nicholson, on August 11, 1959) is an American radio and television personality, keynote speaker, and author.
Early life
Dayna Frances Nicholson was born on August 11, 1959, in Houston, Texas, to William (Bill) and Frances Nicholson.
She attended Dulles High School in Sugar Land, Texas. After graduating early from the school, at the age of 16, she joined the Texas A&M University to study pre-med before changing her major to theater.
Career
Steele began her radio career at KAMU-FM (90.9 FM,) the public radio station located on the campus of Texas A&M University. After a few months, she moved to Top 40 WTAW channel in Bryan, Texas.
In 1978 she left Texas A&M University early to pursue her career as a major market radio disc jockey.
Shortly after, she joined the Houston-based music station KRLY (Y94,) and became the disc jockey for a program. She changed her name from Dayna Nicholson to Dayna Steele, after the WNEW-FM New York’s disc jockey, Alison Steele. Over the next several years, Steele worked with various Houston radio programs, including CHR/Top 40 104 KRBE (1979-1981), 97 Rock (KSRR) (1981-1982) and AOR rocker 101 KLOL.
At KLOL, she also served as the music director. Working at KLOL, she was inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame and nominated for the Billboard Magazine’s Radio Personality of the Year. In 1988, Talkers Magazine named her One of the 100 Most Important Talk Radio Hosts.
She remained with KLOL for 14 years - from 1982 to 1996.
In 1995, Steele launched her first retail business, www.thespacestore.com, an online store that sells space memorabilia and NASA merchandise.
Following the birth of her first child, she left KLOL and began work as a reporter, anchor and morning show host at KNWS Channel 51, an independent Houston television station.
She also founded her own public relations and marketing firm, Steele Media Services offering voiceover talent and narratives.
Political career
In 2018, Steele contested as a Democratic candidate for the US Congress in the 2018 election for Texas Congressional District 36. She lost the general election to her opponent, Republican Brian Babin.

Personal life
In 1992, Steele married Charles Justiz, a corporate aviation consultant and author. The couple has three sons. The family resides in Seabrook, Texas.
